Broward Flex League Rules
League Fees
Ø The league fee for the 2010 season is $35 per player for singles. The league fee for doubles is $60 per team. League fees must be paid prior to the start of the season.
Scheduling
Ø You will have a guaranteed schedule of 7 matches.
Ø You will have 10 days to play a scheduled match.
Ø Both players will provide a new can of balls. One can will be opened and the winner of the match will keep the unopened can.
Ø It is the responsibility of the home team to set up the time and place for the match, however, if you are the visiting team and you have not heard from your opponent, it is advised that you attempt to contact him/her.
Ø If a match is not played within the 10 day window you will be given a 7 day window prior to the playoffs to make up the match. If the match is not made up, the match will be forfeited for both players/teams.
Ø If you have difficulty getting in touch will an opponent, please let the commissioner know. The commissioner will make an attempt to contact your opponent to try to set up the match for you. If this fails and your opponent is not able to schedule a match, you will get credit for a win, while the opponent will be credited for a loss.
Ø Be prepared to pay a fee for court usage at some courts.
Ø You can jump ahead in the schedule if you choose so.
Scoring and Playoffs
Ø All matches will be 2 out of 3 sets with regular AD scoring and 12 point tiebreakers when the score is tied at 6-6 in a set – If you split sets with your opponent you have the option of playing a tie-breaker for the 3rd set. It must be agreed upon between you and your opponent. If an agreement cannot be reached, then you must play a complete 3rd set. We will be following USTA match rules. Check www.USTA.com for further details.
Ø Both players must report the score. You must report your score via the browardtennis website. Go to www.browardtennis.com and click "login". Once you are logged in, click the "match results" button.
Ø The standings board will look similar to the NFL standings. The number of divisions will depend on the number of participants.
Ø Qualifying for the playoffs is based on your win/lose record. The top winner in each division will make the playoffs. For a 6 team/player league, the top 4 teams/player will qualify for the postseason. For an 8 and 10 team/player league the top 6 will qualify for the postseason (with the top 2 division winners earning a bye week for the 1st round of the playoffs).
Ø Tie-breakers will be head-to-head
Withdrawn Players
Any time a player is forced to withdraw from the league due to unforeseen circumstances (e.g. injury, job transfer), the league will attempt to find a replacement player.
If the league is able to replace the withdrawn player, your schedule will remain unchanged, other than that on the week you were scheduled to play against the withdrawn player, you will now play the replacement player. Your schedule will be updated with the contact information for the new player. If you have already posted score results for a match against the withdrawn player, the score results will remain in effect and you will not be required to play the new player. These matches will be considered 'Unplayed' for the new player.
If the league is not able to replace the withdrawn player, all players who are scheduled to play future matches against this player will receive an automatic win by forfeit. There is no need to report this score. Posted score results for matches completed against the withdrawn player will remain in effect.
Conduct
Each player is expected to complete his/her full slate of matches. It’s understandable that scheduling difficulties can happen. Everyone’s time is valuable so please do your best to cooperate with your opponent. If you need to cancel a scheduled match, please contact your opponent as soon as possible.
If you are not able to complete the season, please inform the league as soon as possible so that we can update your status.
The league takes sportsmanship very seriously. We encourage everyone to show respect for your opponent. The league is supposed to be fun, so please do your best to keep it that way.
